Shirley McCay
HOCKEY
Shirley McCay was born in Omagh in 1988. She loved playing sport and being outdoors growing up and her first love was soccer, as an avid Liverpool fan she played on her Primary School team, the first girl ever to do so. She was typically late to start playing hockey, starting at the age of 13 at Omagh Academy where she was part of the team to win the Schools’ Cup and All Irelands for the first time. She represented Ulster and Ireland at underage level and made her debut for the senior team in January 2007 at the age of 18. since then she has played a record 305 times for Ireland, travelling all over the world to compete. In 2018 she was part of the team that made history by finishing 2nd in the World Cup, and in 2019 qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
